In April and May this year, I participated in two events with the King’s Horses. Keldan had his first public joust and Phoebus had his second season, this time ridden by my friend Craig.

In April, we went to the Fantasy Medieval Fair at Mt.Gambier in South Australia. This was Keldan’s first trip with KH, and the first time I rode him in a public joust display. On Saturday, I rode Phoebus in the skill at arms and the jouse. On the Sunday, I introduced Keldan to the skill at arms course and rode him in the display and in the afternoon, the joust. Craig rode Phoebus in the Sunday joust.

Keldan did super well and made many friends in the meet and greet after the joust. Many people asked what breed of horse he is, and it turned out that quite a few people had heard of Icelandic Horses, but never seen one.

On the first May weekend, we travelled to Paracombe in the Adelaide Hills to attend the SA Medieval Fair. This time, I rode Keldan in the joust both days, while Craig rode Phoebus. The joust followed our “arming the knight” display and was attended by several thousand people. Again, the meet and greet after the joust was very popular, and we answered many questions about the horses.

These events are a great opportunity to show some of the horses to the public and create interest in the breeds that we use for displays. Photos on this page are thanks to Inquisitive Images.
